Band Bio
Sons of Carpathia are a Black Metal sextet from various areas of Norway, mainly Oslo. Their debut album "Death Before Enslave" gained them much critical acclaim as well as mainly claims that they are a Satanic band, though various members of the band have denied it. Their drummer "Sledgehammer" claims that the band "Has not affiliated itself with any particular religion." Their single "Vargsmal", translating to "The Speech Of Wolves" has gotten heavy airplay on Nordic radio stations and has even seen a release in the U.S.
The guitarists and the drummer had played in a previous band together, Thrones Of The Fallen, that made one EP then quit when they set their venue on fire and killed their singer and bassist. They had been fans of another local band "Vikings From Hell". When VFH broke up, they asked the singer Hellchord and their drummer if they would be interested in playing together. They agreed, found a keyboard player and began recording tracks.
After nearly 11 months of nearly daily practice, they had 15 solid songs down and began trying to attract label interest. After months of playing local clubs and still getting no attention, they attempted a publicitiy stunt. Much like the stunt made by previous band Thrones Of The Fallen, they attempted to light their stage on fire while playing. This time, however, it did not end in tragedy, and they had three different labels wanting to sign them. They later signed to Nordic Frost records.
A few months before they were ready to go into the recording studio, their drummer was arrested for murder of Vikings From Hell's previous frontman and several church-burnings and was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Frantic to find a new drummer, they enlisted Sledgehammer who has been with them ever since.
They began recording their debut album, Death Before Enslave. The recording process was held up because of Discharge's drinking problems, but was finished once he was forced to either go sober or leave the band.
They have gotten mixed reviews from various magazines in Oslo, most of which were positive. One magazine did give them a very bad review, however, and Hellchord personally showed up at the reviewers house in Lillihammer with an axe and destroyed most of his house as well as threatening his life. This stunt held up Sons Of Carpathia's tour and album release while Hellchord was arrested and kept in jail for a few weeks.
Their debut, Death Before Enslave was released a week after Hellchord's release from jail, and saw high sales as well as many venues wanting to book them for shows, thanks to Hellchord's recent incarceration which had made front page on local newspaper as well as the news.
