Band Bio

Jared "Mac" Mackenzie and Michael "Cheese" Colby met when they were only juniors in high school. At the time, Mac was known as the class clown, while Cheese was more of the quiet type. One day after school, Cheese was sitting on the steps of the school playing his acoustic guitar. Mac, who always had more of an affinity for hip hop, liked the rhythm that Cheese was strumming and began freestyle rapping over the music. Their friendship was quickly formed. From that point on, Mac and Cheese were inseparable. Their quirky brand of music, which they dubbed Folk Hop, begun to spread throughout their school as they played talent shows, school dances and occasional local house parties. Their music was never something either one of them thought would become a full time occupation, but that soon changed.

One day in the Summer of 2002, a friend of Mac and Cheese approached the duo with the proposition to play his little sister's upcoming 8th birthday party. Wanting to help out their friend, and make a quick $50, they agreed to entertain the kids. Realizing that, while none of the their material was for mature audiences only, their songs weren't really geared towards children. Mac and Cheese soon began writing all new material with kids in mind, and soon had at least a half hour set's worth of songs for the party. Mac and Cheese went on to be the hit of that birthday party. Songs that would go on to become Mac and Cheese staples like "Pizza Party" and the audience participation hit "Water Balloon Fight!" had the all of the kids laughing and dancing throughout the afternoon. Mac and Cheese had found their calling.

Mac and Cheese soon became the act that every parent in town called to entertain every birthday party. They began recording their own c-ds out of Mac's bedroom and selling them to parents at their shows, all of whom were eager to buy copies for their kids. Every minivan in town had Mac and Cheese coming out of its speakers. One satisfied parent decided to forward Mac and Cheese's c-d to a friend at the children's record label Funshine Records, who jumped at the opportunity to sign the Folk Hop duo. Within months, Mac and Cheese were officially signed to Funshine Records and were in the studio to record their first professional album.

Mac and Cheese are currently on a cross country tour in support of their self-titled debut album, where shows are selling out like crazy. There are even rumors that Mac and Cheese are in talks with Nick Jr. to star in their very own show. Are Mac and Cheese poised to overthrow kid favorites such as The Wiggles and Yo Gabba Gabba? One listen and I'm sure you'll agree: YES.

Nearly two years after their debut album, and a year on the road playing to sold out venues across the country, Mac & Cheese are back! Their self-titled debut album was an instant kids' favorite, and even got them enough recognition to warrant several offers from multiple networks for Mac & Cheese to star in their own children's television show. While on the road, Jared "Mac" Mackenzie and Michael "Cheese" Colby thought long and hard about their various television offers. While they enjoyed performing in front of thousands of children on tour, they wondered what it might be like to perform every week for millions of children around the world on their own show. In the end, Mac & Cheese declined the multitude of television offers after they came to the realization that the true spirit of their music was something that could never be relived through a TV show. So, Mac & Cheese returned to the studio and created "Snacks, Hugs, & Rock 'n' Roll". "Snacks" maintains the same bouncy musical style and catchy lyrics as their debut, while at the same time expanding the overall world of Mac & Cheese. "Professor Roy G. Biv" introduces a character of the same name who helps Mac & Cheese teach children about the colors of the rainbow, while simultaneously teaching children that everybody is the same, regardless of color. "Wash 'Em" is another educational song, featuring an earworm of a chorus that is sure to help remind kids about the importance of washing their hands. "Where Did Everybody Go?" is guaranteed to be a live favorite, involving kids in a huge on-stage game of Hide And Seek. "Slug-A-Bug" is the perfect car-ride sing-along, and "Have A Seat" is Mac & Cheese's own personal spin on a classic party game: Musical Chairs. Every kid loves Mac & Cheese, and they're dishing up seconds with "Snacks, Hugs and Rock 'n' Roll". Copyright 2011 Funshine Records All songs written by J. Mackenzie and M.
