Band Bio
Hailing from the tiny village of Frontier, Michigan, Free To The Public came about in 2005 from the boredom of having absolutely nothing to do. No, seriously, have you ever lived in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it farm town whose main attraction is the post office? There is literally NOTHING to do there. But we love the place because it's home. Anyway, one day, John and Greg said to each other, "Hi, John." "Hey, Greg." "Wanna put together a band so we can get out of this hellhole?" "Eh, sounds better than any other plans I have today." And thus we formed Free To The Public.
We knew Pete and Ari from high school, and they decided to drop their respective jobs as a cashier and porcine intestine remover (they've gotta make that sausage somehow!) to pursue fortune and fame as rock stars. Or at the very least a couple hundred bucks and a good bag of weed.
Influenced by classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special, The Moody Blues, Supertramp, Yes, AC/DC, Rush, and similar artists, the band took over the southern Michigan music scene by force, playing every show that would have us, spreading our name and original tunes far and wide. Well, okay, we had a gig in Coldwater once, which is an expensive 20-mile trip with two cars full of equipment and the price of gas today.
Our first real success came when we started posting our performances on YouTube. Our first song, "It's A Sweet Thing," gained over 200,000 hits in two weeks. We were surprised we got four! Who says rock is dead?
As our online popularity grew, some bigwigs began to take notice. Eric Crowley at Profound Nothingness shot us an e-mail, which we promptly marked as spam. He sent us another e-mail, and that's when we knew it was either real or some jerk was a really tenacious spammer. So we opened it, and amazingly enough, he was legit. Sorry we ever doubted you, Eric.
As a result, we signed a contract, set up a recording session and we're in the studio working on our first release, which will be self-titled. Target release date is early next month.

Date Released: 12/13/2009
Tracks: 14 (Also known as "...is the name of the band. You'll still have to pay for the album.") The first studio album from the band the Hillsdale Birdcage Liner once called "better than stabbing yourself in the eye with a knitting needle." We're not so sure. If the popularity of classic rock is any indication, though, it's likely you'll enjoy it, even if it does blind you. |
