Blackened Skull Ensemble
Date Released: 3/1/2011
Tracks: 11 On their self-titled third effort, Blackened Skull Ensemble recapture the fierce energy of their 'War Crest' debut. Charging right out of the gate with the full-bore thrash of "Crusader", BSE grab the listener by the throat and do not relent until the final backwards-recorded vocals and manipulated feedback of "666 Cycle Hum" fade out. In between, BSE tackle themes of conflict, technology and death, paired with blistering thrash that harkens back to the heyday of the genre. |

At Dawn We Slaughtered
Date Released: 12/21/2009
Tracks: 10 Blackened Skull Ensemble once again mine classic 80's thrash for inspiration on their latest 'At Dawn We Slaughtered'. The title track kicks things off with a homage to Metallica's "One", featuring a recording of a WWI heavy artillery barrage which segues into a clean guitar riff. But, rather than slavishly imitate the classics of the past, BSE take the key elements [high speed chugging, double bass-driven beats, intricate solos] and update with modern metal flourishes. Another strong effort. |

War Crest
Date Released: 8/10/2009
Tracks: 9 Long Bong Records' latest metal discovery Blackened Skull Ensemble turn in a strong debut with their 'War Crest' album. Featuring breakneck thrash tempos and military-themed imagery, BSE hark back to the late '80s heyday of the Big Four. Highlights include the galloping opener/title track "War Crest", the punishing "Vernichtungskrieg", and the homage to Metallica's "One", "Angels Of Valhalla". An auspicious debut. |
