Charging right out of the gate with the full-bore thrash of "Crusader", BSE grab the listener by the throat and do not relent until the final backwards-recorded vocals and manipulated feedback of "666 Cycle Hum" fade out. In between, BSE tackle themes of conflict, technology and death, paired with blistering thrash that harkens back to the heyday of the genre. |

Tracks: 10 Blackened Skull Ensemble once again mine classic 80's thrash for inspiration on their latest 'At Dawn We Slaughtered'. The title track kicks things off with a homage to Metallica's "One", featuring a recording of a WWI heavy artillery barrage which segues into a clean guitar riff. But, rather than slavishly imitate the classics of the past, BSE take the key elements [high speed chugging, double bass-driven beats, intricate solos] and update with modern metal flourishes. Another strong effort. |
