The Rubbers

Not as bad as it sounds!

Genre Comedy       Band Created 5/12/2009       Fan Base 5       Total Sales 5

Formed in 2008 by former co-workers turned children's song writers Jerry "Jerry Bean" Owen and Tim "Happy G. O'Lucky" McDonald, The Rubbers have been struggling to make a name for themselves as the next Wiggles. Owen and McDonald were once simple office workers who bonded over their cubicle walls because of their love of childhood musician Raffi. One day they decided they had enough of the everyday rat race and turned in their briefcases and ties for guitars and brightly colored sweaters. They chose the name The Rubbers because of the much loved bath toy the rubber duck. "People always ask us why we didn't just go with The Rubbers Ducks," says Owen, "We just thought The Rubbers sounded better, I don't understand the confusion."

Just a few short months after penning what they hoped would soon become beloved sing-along tunes such as "Banana In My Pocket" about the importance of eating fruits and veggies, and "I'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours" about the importance of sharing, Owen and McDonald hoped to land a record deal. But sadly their dream of outselling The Wiggles was dashed before they knew what hit them. "I really don't understand why people jump to conclusions about who we are and what we do," complains McDonald, "As soon as we start singing or even mention the name of a song they just toss us out like yesterday's garbage. We just wanna make music that makes people smile!". A sample lyric from "Banana In My Pocket" may help clear up some confusion:

"Oh, I've got something in my pocket, you put it in your mouth. And when you taste it you will see it's so good you have to shout. I got a banana in my pocket! Peel it back and you will see. A banana in my pocket! It's good for you and me."

But on a lighter note, not all hope is lost for these sad and confused songsters. They've managed to gain quite a following comprised mainly of frat guys who started downloading and sharing The Rubbers' songs online. "We get e-mails all the time from people in colleges telling us how hilarious we are," says Owen, "I guess some of our songs are rather lighthearted, but we hope they're learning something from them too." "You're never too old to learn," adds McDonald. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that a career in children's music isn't in even the very distant future for The Rubbers, but at least they've found a niche and can share their music with the world. However clueless that music may be.

Please give our music a chance. We just wanna make music that makes people happy and helps them learn. People always think our music is suggestive and we don't know where they get that??? "Banana in my Pocket" is about eating your fruits and veggies, "I'll Show You Mine" is about sharing your toys, and "Dare You To Touch It" is about playing with bugs in the garden. What's so suggestive about that??? Just give us a chance and we promise you'll love The Rubbers!
