Grover *Neckbone* Clifton

Saturday nights on the front porch

Genre Blues       Band Created 4/27/2009       Fan Base 3       Total Sales 5

Grover Clifton has been playing a guitar since before he was big enough to hold it his self. His grandaddy got him started. They would play on the hot summer Saturday nights on the front porch for his family's weekly gathering of barbecue, lemonade & Jukes. People would come from as far away as three towns over to hear this young prodigy tell stories without talkin'. While his uncles would smoke the meat, he and Grandad would jam and sing all afternoon and into the night. (Grover would sneak away and steal the neck bones off the chickens before they got put over the coals and he would suck them juices right off of them bones...that's how he got tagged with the nick name any way.)
Grover had a way of playing his 6 string that was really more like singing.
He could pass on whatever emotion he wanted, sending it right out to everyone who was gathered there to listen. It was said by folks around those parts that he had a little bit of Ol' Jack Scratch in him. And it did some times seem that flames were dancing around his fingertips.

Well any way, That was all a long time ago.

When he was old enough to leave the farm, he hopped a train bound for the bustle of New York City, where he spent several years moving from one odd job to another, finally ending up broke and with out a roof to call his own. At about this time Grover found a beat up old guitar in a trash bin and he resurrected old "neck-bone". He started playing on street corners and subway platforms, picking up the odd coin here and there.

And that is exactly where he was...14th St. Union Square Station, L Train platform...Playing one of his most blistering licks when the tall bearded man in the top hat showed up. That was Zandergriff Miggs. He was some kind of hippie or something, but he sure knew his music. He invited "neck-bone" for a bite to eat, and they hashed out a plan to get some of Grover's songs recorded.
Grover "neck-bone" Clifton went back to Minnesota with Mr. Miggs and the rest is, as they say...History.

Juke Joints & Lemon Bombs

Date Released: 10/4/2009   Tracks: 7

Ol' Neckbone been so busy workin' with Z and the whole Spaceport thing, he needed to take some time for his self. He wandered on back down to the homestead and the front porch, jammin' with his kin and fuelin' his belly with some BBQ. Well all that time back home really stirred his juices and when he got back to MPLS, he was ready to lay some serious delta blues down for Zander & Frey at the BassmentFile. This is what came out. Hope you enjoy. -best with some pork shoulder, pulled of course.

Deuce (12" Maxi Single)

Date Released: 5/9/2009   Tracks: 6
Sales: 1   Listens: 1

Deuce serves as a vehicle for Neck-Bones 23 & 1/2 minute exploration of the rare 13 bar blues (gives an extra measure in the turn around). Starting slow and low the title track builds, roiling and boiling, to a sweat drenched climax that ushers in a new paradigm for blues. The 5 songs comprising the B-side are newer pieces being worked into the set list for this summer's "Under The Big Top" music festival. -guitar & voices+G. Clifton -organ+Z. Miggs -drums+O. san Salvadore available on vinyl

What a long strange trip it's been

Date Released: 4/27/2009   Tracks: 12
Sales: 3   Listens: 3

Grover "neck-bone" Clifton will draw you in and turn you inside out. His playing will make you feel...really feel as if you, yourself had the Blues. This album was recorded live, no over-dubs, in an old abandoned grain elevator (amazing natural reverb). It is primarily just "neck-bone" playing and singing. Zandergriff joins him on the B3 on a few tracks (labeled *). -recorded, mixed & mastered by Frey -produced by Z. Miggs for Uncle Duff Records 2009
