Band Bio

"Heavier Than Heavy; Supercrusher Plumbs The Depths" - InsideStonerRock.com

Originally conceived as a side-project by Adam Young and Jimmy Gibbons of Crimson Eye, Supercrusher has developed a strong following of its' own and has become a leading extreme metal outfit in its' own right. With one full-length disc, one EP and one single under their belt already, plus a legendary live performance as the kickoff band for the Merchants Of Metal Main Stage in Chicago, Supercrusher have accomplished more than some full-time bands - and they still only have 2 members.

Considering Crimson Eye's reputation as a superheavy doom/thrash metal act, with a growing fan base and achieving success after success, it was surprising when Young and Gibbons created Supercrusher to take things to an even heavier extreme. Says Young, "Jim and I had some songs we'd written pre-CE that were a bit too heavy for our group thing, if you can believe that, and thematically didn't really work with any of our CE albums." Gibbons adds, "So, we decided to do our little side project, in-between CE sessions and gigs. Little did we realize, it would take off like it did...."

Supercrusher's self-titled debut disc was released following CE's 'Warmonger' EP, and helped bridge the gap between that disc and the epic 'Imperium'. Both Young and Gibbons were surprised by the reception and commercial success of what they thought of as more or less a lark. "We just figured we'd get this out of our system, and then get back to working on 'Imperium'", says Young. The pair released a second bunch of songs on the 'Maximum Psi' EP, and at that point intended to walk away from Supercrusher for good. "Even with the success of those two albums, we probably would have, if it weren't for Merchants Of Metal."

Famously, The Infernal Archon, head of Long Bong Records [label for both Supercrusher and Crimson Eye], commented that he "made Supercrusher an offer they couldn't refuse" to get them to play the inaugural Merchants Of Metal Festival, despite the fact the pair were already performing with Crimson Eye as the penultimate Main Stage act. Young and Gibbons quickly enlisted polyrhythmic wizard K from Zeroth to man the drums, and Trey Drake from Kings Of Hades for bass, and a live incarnation was born. Rehearsals were frenzied, but given the relatively simplicity of the drumming compared to K's usual work with Zeroth, and Drake's proficiency on bass, things gelled quickly.

Merchants Of Metal was a day filled with highlights, but by most accounts, the live debut of Supercrusher was one of the standouts. "Opening the festivities on the Main Stage was a huge honor for our little side project", says Young. Adds Gibbons, "The crowd really got into our set, it seemed like most of them knew the songs. It was cool to do something a bit lower-key than the full-on Crimson Eye experience."

The live success at MOM convinced both guitarists that closing out the Supercrusher experiment might be premature. "Mercants Of Metal really got us thinking", says Gibbons. "Crimson Eye will always be our day job, but if we can work Supercrusher into the schedule and people dig it, why NOT keep it going?"

Anvil

Date Released: 11/25/2009   Tracks: 6
Sales: 5   Listens: 4

Supercrusher release the 'Anvil' EP; songs recorded during the 'Predatory Urge' sessions that did not fit the theme of the completed album. As would be expected with Supercrusher, the album is packed with crushing riffery and powerful imagery. After opening slowly with the ominously plodding "Anvil" [think "Black Sabbath" on steroids], the band rips into thrash territory with "Juggernaut", and keeps the hammer down the rest of the way. An acoustic demo of "Anvil" comes as a bonus track.

The previously-released "Singularity", the raw "Primordial", and the sinister "The True Breed" are standout tracks. Includes a bonus track, a live recording of "Singularity" performed by Crimson Eye.

Recorded on a day off during Crimson Eye's 2009 'Shot Of Karma' North American Tour, Supercrusher's latest offering "Singularity" is an impossibly heavy doom masterpiece clocking-in at just under nine minutes. As on previous Supercrusher albums, all duties handled by Young and Gibbons. For the "B-side", Supercrusher acknowledge a thematic and equally crushing riff-laden inspiration with a stellar cover of Sabbath's classic "Into The Void".

Maximum Psi

Date Released: 5/5/2009   Tracks: 6
Sales: 7   Listens: 9

Not merely content to lay waste to their surroundings as part of Crimson Eye, Adam Young and Jimmy Gibbons continue their quest for sonic mayhem with their side project Supercrusher. Their latest Long Bong Records release 'Maximum Psi' plumbs the depths of bowel-shaking metal, with one heavy grinding riff after another. The opener "Tectonic Upheaval" sounds just like that: huge land masses grinding against each other. "Tremorizer" and "Seismic Anomaly" are the other lowlights.
