Midnight Sun by Jason Smith
Date Released 2/9/2010 Sales 10 Listens 18
Jason Smith steps from behind the monolithic facade of Zeroth to release his solo debut 'Midnight Sun'. Consisting of 7 original songs and 5 covers, 'Midnight Sun' showcases Smith's mastery of phrasing and dynamics in a less complicated structure than his day job. Aside from the occasional bit of percussion or hint of electric guitar, the album is strictly one voice, one acoustic guitar. This stripped down approach could expose a lesser talent, but Smith shines brightly on this stellar debut.

"Is Midnight Sun a cover?"
bobmuffin55"For me Zeroth's appeal IS their complexity, both musically and lyrically. (wow...lots of "ly's" there.) Mr. Smith's stripped down presentation gives us a new angle to view his music. It is more accessible-for sure-and hopefully it will lead new listeners on to the path of the syncopated theorems of Zeroth. "
theHoseman"I've gotta admit, lately Zeroth has not been my favorite band. Maybe it's because I don't quite understand them (or a single word in the song titles of 'Tachyon'). However, I'm proud to be a fan of Jason Smith's solo project and the songs on here rock, especially "Sensible Venom", "Midnight Sun" and their cover of "Outshined", which is easily one of the best Soundgarden songs out there "
TMTYTF"The covers are great songs, but Jason's extraordinary talent is really in the originals. Great all around. "
ChildofAlma"A solid solo debut from the Zeroth howler, but next time more originals and less covers. Buy it!"
