Out In The Ocean by Coxswain Insignia

Date Released 3/30/2009       Sales 13       Listens 21

Haunting, rhythmic, uplifting; Out In The Ocean feels like just the tip of the iceberg for Coxswain Insignia. The ethereal but driving melodies combined with the soul searching lyrics and soft voice of front man Brad Singer make this album a complex array of human emotion. Tracks like the album opener "Black Sunrise" and "Tastes Sour" are heavy and deep without overdoing it, like a slow chugging train that never quite reaches the station. While tracks like "Dreamstate" are ghostly yet beautiful.

"An impressive debut. Originally, I had little thought for this band and this album, but never before have I been so elated to be proven so terribly wrong. "Black Sunrise" is a song for the ages, while "Dreamstate" truly left something behind deep down. This is the kind of music that seldom comes around... and I cannot wait for the next installment. What an amazing piece of work!"

"My heart hurt after I heard "Black Sunrise" the first time, and I mean that in the best way possible. CI nailed it with this one!"

"Amazing! Once again, Coxswain Insignia breaks barriers in a familiar yet complex soundscape of breathtaking aural vistas.

"Locked Doors" is devastatingly beautiful with a chorus that will melt the coldest of hearts.

A true innovation!"

"This is a great album to while away a rainy afternoon. I immediately hit play again after the first listen and could continue listening for a long time before discovering all the other-worldly aspects to the delightfully haunting music."

"Much like the album cover to their debut release "Out in the Ocean", Coxswain Insignia make us wonder what's next. Their debut is filled with melodic but angular rhythms that are not only pretty to listen to, but also beg you to explore them further. Songs like "Cynthiana", "So To Speak" and the ethereal "Dreamstate" anchor an album that speaks to the wanderlust in all of us. Where Coxswain Insignia will take us in the future remains to be seen, but I'll be along for the ride."
