Imperium by Crimson Eye
Date Released 4/19/2009 Sales 8 Listens 9
"Cast Iron" is not just the first track on Crimson Eye's second full-length release, 'Imperium' [Long Bong Records], it's also the consistency of their balls. Daring to release a metal concept double-album certainly took a huge pair, but their risk was well-calculated. With powerful subject matter [totalitarianism], and their signature devastating sonic assault, Crimson Eye take insipiration from Metallica's 'Master of Puppets' and '...And Justice For All' and arguably do them one better.

"Titles like "Cast Iron", "Scorched Earth", & "Will to Power" describe not only the Nietzsche/Lenin/Alex the Great conceits of the lyrics, but also the earshattering destruction of the music. Starting with a drum fanfare & a cry of "Carpe jugulum!", Imperium switches with ease between fast & slow assaults, with songs based on the propaganda model & old Latin, the only respite here is in quiet, morbid numbers like the closer. whereas the title track expresses their shifting attack. 5 evil stars."
vaguelyhumanoid"Did they ever raise the bar! (Good thing I'm not in a doom metal band...I'd probably have to retire). This disc is out of this world sonically and the subject matter is taken in some new and interesting directions. With songs like "Cleansing The Ranks", "Scorched Earth" & of course "Cast Iron" this disc has the potential to blow the balls off any lesser band!"
theHoseman"InsiderStonerRock.com raves "'Imperium' is a bone-crushing walk through the history of collapsing empires and failed dictatorships. Everything came together for Crimson Eye with this one, both musically and lyrically. We give it a solid 4.5 bong loads out of five. The only problem we see with 'Imperium' is that Crimson Eye has raised the bar SO high with this record, no only will their contemporaries have trouble surpassing it, it's questionable how they will ever be able to follow it up.""
